BULENGO BRIEFING, DAY 16
Continuation this Thursday, March 9, 2023of the sensitization on the hygiene of the toilets in the camp of Bulengo. Facilitators of the organization AGIR DRC raise awareness every day on different themes such as Living together, gender-based violence, cleanliness ... want to strengthen the cohesion of the displaced but also participate in the fight against diseases of the hands rooms.
For the past week, the number of children suffering from diarrhea has been increasing in Bulengo. This is due not only to the poor conditions of these displaced people but also to the lack of hygiene practices. This is why, through the animators, AGIR is passing on messages inviting people to wash their hands and to keep their toilets clean.
It is 9:00 a.m. 6 animators begin the work of circulating in blocks with this message: "Allo Allo, to fight against diarrhea that is rampant in the camp of Bulengo, we invite all inhabitants to wash their hands with soap or ash. Dear parents, accompany children who show signs of vomiting to the camp clinic. ''
Pre-recorded in the megaphone, this message was played in a dozen blocks as well as in the small market of the camp. Arriving at Block 102, the facilitators observed mothers practicing toilet hygiene. One of them pointed out some of the challenges they face in hygiene. In response, AGIR gave this hygiene committee a kit consisting of a bucket, a ball and a can to meet the need for cleanliness materials.
In addition, in block 234, the problem of lack of toilets is still present. This block has already registered about twenty children suffering from diarrhea. Although there are pots, parents do not know how to evacuate," says Agnes Utema, head of this block. She calls on the authorities to come to their aid.
